We have THE prettiest wedding to share this week, as we get a sneaky insight into the gorgeous wedding of Hayley and Jon at Sopley Mill. This gorgeous day is packed with dusky pink tones, set against rustic slate which combine to create a stunning fresh english countryside vibe.  Our magpie eyes are hugely drawn to the gorgeous exposed brick, and this rather cool bridge that Jon and Hayley used so well for their private snaps. These guys deserve a medal for seeking out this wonderful venue and seeing its potential even whilst being renovated…it certainly paid off!

A HUGE thank you to Helen Rushton for capturing these lovely images. Have a peek….

My Wedding Dress

I work in Brides of Winchester and so I had a good idea of what would suit me before trying on dresses.

Before I had worked at Brides of Winchester I loved Suzanne Neville’s dresses and so when I started working there and found that we stocked Suzanne Neville, I had my mind made up on which designer I was going to have – just as long as they suited me.

I knew I wanted a fuller dress and once I started trying on dresses it was obvious what style suited me and there was one stand out Suzanne Neville dress. I thought I would have wanted lace, but thankfully (as I work in a bridal shop and surrounded by dresses) lace didn’t overly suit me, which really narrowed down my choices. I only went to the one shop, as there was no point as nothing was going to better a Suzanne Neville and I ordered during our Suzanne Neville designer day where I worked with Suzanne to make a bespoke dress that met all my requirements.

My Wedding Venue

Again from working in a bridal shop, I had good knowledge of all the local venues, but I really wanted something different. I found Sopley Mill through one of my brides and went to visit it during its renovations. I loved it straight away even though it was half completed. It met all my needs as it could take a large amount of people, we could bring our own drinks and we didn’t need to dress the venue up.

My Wedding Styling & Planning

Working in a bridal shop, I really knew what I was doing, so our families left us to it. My colleague Laura and photographer Helen were incredibly helpful with the planning.

I’ve always loved dusky pink flowers, so that was a easy choice and I wanted a colour to compliment that. I had lots of slate decorations at the wedding and thought slate grey would be the perfect colour to compliment dusky pink.

I was quite specific on the flowers that I liked and we wanted them to have a vintage/grecian style to them. We used lots of roses, wax flowers, astrainthias in the bouquets and foxgloves and stocks in the milk churns and aisle runners.

My Wedding Suppliers

Our caterers Vanilla were absolutely amazing and made everything run so smoothly. We had a buffet meal as we wanted the wedding to feel relaxed and not to formal. Our photographer Helen was brilliant at letting us enjoy ourselves, but also moving us on for all the formal bits. Her photography style was very relaxed and we didn’t really feel like we were posing for any pictures during the wedding.

Don’t get caught up on having a perfect day and worrying about the small things. Let the experts take control and don’t worry about things like your dress getting dirty or having the right flowers on your cake. You won’t notice the small things on the day!

I also realised how important having a videographer is! You will never get all the photos you want – small children are no good at standing still – so a video will capture this. Also as a bride you miss out on all the things you have spent months planning like walking down the aisle, the string quartet etc – a videographer will capture this for you
