Warning: Beware of the dinosaurs…

My Wedding Story

We actually knew each other from school, but didn’t start dating until 2009 when we met again at a friend’s party. A couple of months later we had moved in together and in 2012 we welcomed our son Noah. A couple more years passed until Ollie proposed in the summer of 2014 and we set the date for July 2015.

My Wedding Photographer

We were recommend Az at Lemontree photography by a friend. Once we had looked at his work on his website we knew he was the photographer for us. His laid back and relaxed style suited out day perfectly and we were blown away with the images.

My Wedding Venue

We were married in our local village church and then we were really lucky to be able to host our reception in Ollie’s parent’s beautiful back garden. It meant a lot to us to have our special day there.

My Wedding Vibe

We wanted to have a relaxed, fun wedding day with all our close friends and family together in one place. I always dreamt of a marquee garden style wedding and it was exactly that.

My Wedding Catering

Starters: A selection of canapés served on olive boards.

Main: Hog roast with all the trimmings.

Pudding: Eton mess or Chocolate brownie.

My talented Aunty made our cake. I knew we wanted something quite rustic to suit the theme of our day. I sent her a photo of one I had seen online and she absolutely did amazing in replicating it!

My Wedding Style

My dress was by Essense of Australia. It was mermaid style and made of tulle and probably about the 40th dress I tried on! I knew it was the one as soon as I put it on. It came with a floral ribbon sash which I put on in the evening. I wore a headband and earrings by Glitzy Secrets and also had a mid length tulle veil which I loved.

The bridesmaid dresses were from ASOS and the colour suited both girls perfectly. The navy groomsmen suits were from Moss Bro’s. The flower girls dresses and shoes were a real bargain in BHS. My hair was done by Tori at Riot Hairdressing, she was brilliant and really helped me to decide on the exact style I wanted.

My makeup was done by a friend who’s a makeup artist and she was amazing.

My Wedding Flowers

The flowers were done by my good friend Jess who’s a florist. I showed her a couple of photos of the types of style we wanted and what she came up with was incredible. She used Avalanche roses, peonies, daisies, gypsophila, and green hydrangea to create the centrepieces, my bouquet, the church flowers and button holes and used big bouquets of white hydrangeas for the two bridesmaids which were stunning.

Ollies mum also spent lots of time in the months before the wedding making sure the garden was perfect and she grew lots of sweet peas, which we also used in the centrepieces, they smelt amazing!

If you are planning a DIY garden wedding then make sure you are very well organised, we had spreadsheets and lists everywhere in the months beforehand! Also make sure you have properly thought out the timings and order of the day too, and have it printed out to give to members of the wedding party for them to have on hand.

My Wedding Highlights

There are quite a few!

  1. One of the best parts of the day was actually walking into the church and seeing Ollie waiting at the end and all of our friends and family together in one room.I was so nervous about this part of the day for weeks leading up to it but once I actually got there I was so excited.
  2. Another highlight was definitely riding in our tuktuk from the church back to the house. It was a lovely sunny day and it was the only moment we got just as the two of us.

My Wedding advice is don’t fret over the small things, no one notices if things go wrong. Just make sure you enjoy every single moment and take it all in, as cliché as it sounds, the day is over before you know it!

A HUGE thank you to Ollie and Katy for sharing your über cool wedding story. The creative little details mixed with the relaxed atmosphere is keeping us swooning for hours.
